    Abstract
Research the effect of Daun Afrika (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) leaf extract on the hematological value of mice (Mus musculus L.) induced by streptozotocin was carried out from May 2022 to August 2022. African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) are used by the community for diabetes treatment. Ethanol compounds, flavonoids and tannins in African leaves can reduce blood glucose levels. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of African leaf extract on the value of hematocrit, the number of erythrocyte and the histological profile of red blood cells in diabetic mice. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments, k(-) negative control, k(+) positive control, treatment of African leaf extract 100 mg/kgBW (P1), 200 mg/kgBW (P2), 300 mg/kgBW (P3) and metformin 65 mg/kgBW (P4). The treatments were carried out for 30 days and then surgery was carried out and blood was drawn using a syringe directly from the heart. The blood inserted into the EDTA tube, and peripheral blood smeared by with Giemsa staining. The results of the administration of African leaf extract had no significant effect (p>0,05) on the number of erythrocytes and hematocrit values, but there was a rouleaux formation in the STZ treatment from the red blood smear and in the extract treatment as a sign of glycation. The highest rouleaux formation was observed in the STZ treatment. It seems that the administration of the extract reduces the appearance of these formations at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kgBW.
