The most important human resources in a hospital are nurses whose number is
the biggest of all of the staff working for the hospital. Nurse’s performance is one of
the indicators of the service provided by a hospital. Related to these criteria, there are
many in-patient patients getting treatment in dr Zainoel Abidin General Hospital
Banda Aceh complaint, that the nurses were less friendly to them, the nurses slowly
responded to their complaint, and the nurses did not give them medicine on time.
The purpose of this study with explanatory research design is to analyze the
influence of work climate (work structure, work standard, responsibility, recognition,
support, commitment, and relationship with co-workers) on the performance of the
nurses working in the in-patient installation of dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital
Banda Aceh in 2008. The samples for this study are 60 nurses working in the in-
patient installation of dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital Banda Aceh. The data for
this study were collected through questionnaire-based interviews. The data obtained
were analyzed through multiple linear regression tests.
The result of this study shows that the variables of work climate which
significantly influence the nurse's performance are work structure, work standard,
responsibility, commitment, and relationship with co-workers with p<0.05
respectively. The variables of recognition and support do not have any influence on
the nurse's performance. The variable which has a very dominant influence on the
nurse’s performance is work standard (p=0.001).
The management of the hospital is suggested to create a conducive and
comfortable working environment and to socialize the standard nursing care. The
management of the hospital is also expected to establish a nurse's committee as a
place for the nurses to professionally discuss their needs and nursing problems
existing in this hospital that it can improve work quality and the professionalism of
the nurses.
