dc.description.abstract | The work of a nurse in charge at the hospital has both physical and psychological burdens. Supervision by the head of the hospital ward is given in the form of guidance, direction to and assessment and evaluation of the nurse in charge. Workload conditions that do not correspond to the ability of the nurse in charge and failure to implement the supervision activities can lead to poor performance in nursing care. Hospital nursing care in Bangkatan Binjai delas with the problem of high workloads and not well implemented supervision. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of workload and supervision on the performance of the nurse in charge at the Bangkatan Binjai Hospital. This type of research is explanatory survey in as many as 54 people nurse in charge. The data was obtained through interviews and a questionnaire and was analyzed by multiple linear regression tests. The results showed that the work load (quantitative and qualitatively) and supervision (guidance, direction as well as assessment and evaluation) signficantly influenced the performance of the nurse in charge at the Bangkatan Binjai Hospital. The workload variable had the greatest influence on the performance of the nurse in charge (β = -0.655). This study suggested an adjustment of workload for the nurse in charge so that it suits her capabilities and competencies through a policy which stipulates that nurses' work shall be done limited to nursing care. Head of the hospital ward it the Hospital Bangkatan Binjai should promote the implementation of supervision so that the nurse in charge gets guidance and direction about nursing care. The management of Bangkatan Binjai Hospital needs to develop guidelines and schedule of supervision for the nurse in charge including things to be supervised and formulate clear sanctions for the head of hospital ward failure to give direction to the nurse. | en_US |
