The study was conducted to determine the relationship between Problem-Focused Coping with academic stress on students who are writing an undergraduate thesis at the Universitas Sumatera Utara. The sample in this study are active undergraduate students who are writing an undergraduate thesis at the Universitas Sumatera Utara with a sample of 276 students and using accidental sampling technique. This study used quantitative methods and data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The measuring instrument was the SSI (Student Life Stress Inventory) which has been modified relate the Problem-Focused Coping scale which was compiled by the researcher based on the PFC aspects proposed by Lazarus and Folkman (1984). The study employed to analyze the data collected the Spearman rho correlation test. The study found that the correlation between Problem-Focused Coping and academic stress was r = -0.122; p < 0.05, means that there is a significant negative relationship between Problem-Focused Coping and academic stress on students who are writing a thesis at the Universitas Sumatera Utara. This results indicates that the higher the Problem-Focused Coping, the lower the academic stress on students who are writing a thesis at the Universitas Sumatera Utara.
