Mangrove forests are areas around the coast that are overgrown with mangrove plants and may also have a high diversity of microorganisms including fungi. This study is to determine the diversity of fungi in Belawan mangrove forest waters and their potential in decolorizing dye waste. Water samples were obtained from 3 different stations, and the fungi were isolated using the spread plate method, then characterized macroscopically and microscopically. Screening of decolorization activity was done using Mineral Salt Medium Agar (MSMA) with the addition of dye waste at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100. Decolorization potential test was carried out in Mineral Salt Medium (MSM) with 50% dye waste with or without the addition of 1% glucose.. The isolation results obtained were 23 fungal isolates and 5 isolates (JPM 1, JPM 10, JPM 12, JPM 14 and JPM 15) showed better decolorization activity qualitatively. The addition of glucose to liquid MSM media affected the rate of color decolorization. JPM 14 isolate exhibited the highest decolorization activity 85.66% on media without glucose, while JPM 10 showed the highest decolorization 85.27% on media containing 1% glucose. Molecular identification of all potential isolates indicated that the fungi belonges to 5 isolates indicated that the fungi belongs 5 different species, namely Aspergillus niger (JPM 1), Aspergillus citrinoterreus (JPM 10), Fusarium oxysporum (JPM 12), Montagnula chromolaenicola (JPM 14) and Trichoderma lentiforme (JPM 15) ).en_US
