dc.description.abstractThis research is carried out in STIE Harapan Medan in 2005. STIE Harapan Medan as one of the organization in education has a main role in increasing the quality of education in Medan. This institution also has succeded in doing it's mission. It's success depends c,n the management who look after the institution. To gain main goal of this institution, the duties are given to the lower level employees clearly by the leader and the activities and the discipline are monitored in condusive condition. The problem which is discussed in this research is : How the consideration leadership style and the initiating structure leadership style influences the effectiveness of the leadership in STIE Harapan Medan. This research has hypothesis stated : Consideration leadership and initiating structure leadership style influences is influenced significantly to the effectiveness of the leadership in STIE Harapan Medan. The main purpose of this research are : ( 1) To find out the influence of the consideration of the leadership style and initiating structure to the effectiveness of the leadership in STIE Harapan Medan; (2) to find out the main factor which influence the effectiveness of the leadership in STIE Harapan Medan. This is descriptive research, and used survey method. The population in this research are all of the lecturers and administration employees in STIE Harapan Medan, consist of 11 0 persons; 87 are lecturers and 23 are administration employees. From these population, 25 persons are taken as samples for validity and reliability instrument. The v~lidity and reliability of the instrument is tested using Cronbach alpha. The data is analysis by using multiple linear regression analysis and processed by using software of SPSS 13.0 Both the result of this research show that : (1) Consideration and initiating structure leadership style have positive and significance influence to the effectiveness of the leadership a= 0, 05; (2) The initiating structure leadership style is the most factor which influence the effectivness of the leadershipen_US
