Habitus Komunitas Punk di Kota Medan dalam Perspektif Gerakan Sosial

Abstract

The punk community is a social in all major cities in Indonesia, including the city of Medan. These communities can be found in city centers with extreme and striking appearances. The punk community is a group of individuals who share problems, concerns, or have the same hobbies so that they discuss them and deepen their knowledge by interacting continuously. The purpose of this study was to determine the existence and habitus of the punk community in Medan City and to determine the relationship between symbolic capital and social movements of the punk community in Medan City. This study used a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach to analyze the data. The theory of habitus and social movement is used as an analytical framework. The results of this study indicate that social life with patterns of interaction between members of the punk community is an activity that is often carried out routinely and is done every day and then forms habits and becomes a mindset. In accordance with its ideology, namely Do It Yourself (DIY) and anarchism which is firmly entrenched in punk members, causing punks to behave and act in accordance with that ideology. Punk is a youth resistance movement that exists as a resistance to oppression and injustice which tends to be born by the system of power to marginalized communities. These attempts at rebellion and criticism were implemented freely using works of art and totalized by means of surviving on the streets collectively and independently
