Pembuatan Mullite Berpori dari Kaolin Alam dan Limbah Alumina

Abstract

Mullite is made using several materials such as kaolin, alumina dross, pure alumina and aluminum powder. This research was conducted by milling method and sintering process. The results of the X-Ray Fluorescence characterization that has been carried out show that kaolin has some alumina content of 51.24% and a silica content of 46.90% and there are other impurities, namely Fe2O3 and CaO. While aluminum powder has an alumina content of 95.24% and there are other impurities, namely SiO2, Fe2O3, and CaO. While the latter, alumina dross, has an alumina content of 92.18% and there are other impurities, namely SiO2, Fe2O3, and Cao. Mixing of raw materials begins with the grinding process for 1 hour. The results of the milling are then homogenized throughout the material and this process KOH solution is put into the material and stirred for 10 minutes on the Hot Plate stirrer. The results that have been printed are homogeneous and dried in the oven at 110o C for 2 hours. Furthermore, the sintering process was carried out with temperature variations of 1300 o C and 1500 o C (holding time 2 hours). The results of X-Ray Diffraction have been carried out on the sintered powder showing that the sample has become mullite based on the XRD match software
