Pruritus or itching is often experienced by people with diabetes mellitus due to poor blood circulation, causing the skin to become dry and itchy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of african leaf (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) extract on the healing of pruritus in diabetic mice (Mus musculus L.) induced by streptozotocin and high-fat diet. This study used 3 treatment groups of african leaf extract with concentrations of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kgBB that were given for 30 days. Histological preparations were made using the HE staining method to measure the number of the epithelial cells and the thickness of the epithelium. Data were statistically analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test and followed by the Post Hoc test. The results of the statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the african leaf extract group and the K+ control group in the number of the epithelial cells and the thickness of the epithelium. It was concluded that african leaf extract could not be used as medicine to cure pruritus.en_US
