    Abstract
Human need for energy sources, especially the need for electrical energy will be higher. The distribution of electricity supply from the State Electricity Company (PLN) also cannot reach all regions in Indonesia due to the geographical conditions of the area which make it impossible for PLN to reach it. There are many alternative ways to get electrical energy, one of which is by using a wind power plant. This wind energy can be utilized for various things, one of which is to be a source of energy used to drive vertical wind turbines of the Darrieus H type. Because the wind speed in each area is not the same every time, the electrical energy generated by the wind generator must be stored in the battery. so that the energy can be used with a stable load. In terms of charging the battery sometimes the battery is full but still connected to the battery charger. This will have a direct impact on the battery which will result in decreased battery performance. To prevent this, a system is created that automatically cuts off the flow of current to the battery when the battery is fully charged. Likewise, when the battery voltage is below the nominal, it is hoped that there will be a system that works automatically to charge the battery. In this research, a charging device was designed and a battery charging experiment was carried out on the 4th floor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of North Sumatra. The results obtained in the no-load test, the charging current is full for charging the battery, and when testing with a load the current is divided into 2, namely, it is divided into battery charging and load. The highest source voltage is 13.56 Volts, the highest source current is 1.73 Amperes and the time required to charge one cycle of a 12V 12 AH Lead Acid battery is 2 hours 20 minutes with an average charging current of 1.03 Amperes.
