Serisin is one of the proteins contained in silkworm cocoon degumming which
functions as an antioxidant. The study aimed to analysed the effect of degumming
waste of silkworm cocoons (Bombyx mori L.) on the morphological and histological
improvement of the kidneys of male mice (Mus musculus L.) exposed to allethrin. The
research method designed by a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5
treatments, which were allethrin exposure only; allethrin exposure and combined by
vitamin C; allethrin expore with degumming waste of silkworm cocoons at different
doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/BW. This study used 25 male rats (Mus musculus L.).
The research observed kidney morphology including the shape, the colour, the texture,
the weight and the volume of the kidney as well as kidney histology including the
glomerular area, the proximal tubular narrowing and the kidney necrosis. The results
of the research showed the silkworm cocoon degumming waste could improve the
colour, the texture, increasing the glomerular area, reducing the amount of proximal
tubular constriction and reducing the amount of kidney necrosis due to exposure to
allethrin. The Silkworm cocoons degumming waste at a dose of 300 mg/kgBW showed
the best dose in improving the morphological and histological features of the kidneys
of male mice (Mus musculus L.) exposed to allethrin.
