dc.description.abstract | Research on the effects of African leaf extract (Vernonia amygdalina Del.)
on the histological appearance of the kidneys of mice (Mus musculus L.) the
diabetes model has been carried out from May 2022 to July 2022. African leaves
are a shrub that is used as an anti-diabetic. African leaves have the benefit of
helping reduce kidney damage and can restore kidney function in diabetics. In
this study, a completely randomized design (CRD) was used with 6 treatments and
4 replications. The treatment consisted of normal control, positive control,
African leaf extract treatment at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/kg BW, 300
mg/kg BW and metformin at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW. Kidney organ preparations
were prepared using the parifine method and staining with phloxine hematoxylin.
The results of inducing diabetes with Streptozotocin showed that there was a
decrease in the P3 treatment (Streptozotocin 40 mg/kg body weight + African leaf
extract 300 mg/kg body weight) namely in body weight, kidney weight, kidney
length and kidney volume, glomerular basement membrane thickness and
expansion of mesangial cells with an average of (body weight 29 grams), (kidney
weight 0.625 grams), (kidney length 1.125 cm, kidney volume 0.225 mm3),
(glomerular basement membrane thickness 0.46 mm3), (mesangial cell expansion
22,2). The results showed that African leaf extract was able to reduce body
weight and kidney weight at doses of 100 mg/kg body weight and 200 mg/kg body
weight and could reduce the thickness of the basement membrane and the
expansion of kidney mesangial cells in diabetic mice. | en_US |
