    Analisis Sumatran Youth Food Movement sebagai sebuah Gerakan Sosial Baru Berbasis Pangan di Kota Medan

    Abstract
    Medan is not apart from the food problems, which because of its high ratio of food import and low interest from its people to care about the Medan’s local food. Because of that, Sumatran Youth Food Movement was formed; a youth community based on New Social Movement. Food is the main issues of this Community. The main goals of Sumatran Youth Food Movement are to give education to The People of Medan City about its local food, and to change the mindset and the pattern of food consumption of Medan’s citizen, whice previously prefer to consuming franchise-based import food, back to local food which is made by its local people. This will later be expected to giving contribution in solving the food problems in Medan and the food sovereignty can be achieved. This research is a qualitative research, using descriptive method. the goals of this research are to analyze the food’s situation in Medan, to analyze the Sumatran studi pustakaYouth Food Movement using 4 characteristics of New Social Movement by Nelson Pichardo and Rajendra Singh, and its efforts in achieving food sovereignty in Medan. The primary data’s source in this research is obtained from the interview method with three interviewees and two key informants. The secondary data is obtained from literature reviews. From the results of this research that has been done, it is known that: Medan’s food export ratio is already sufficient, but its food import ratio is still high, especially rice; Sumatran Youth Food Movement can be categorized as a New Social Movement, because the four characteristics of New Social Movement by Nelson Pichardo and Rajendra Singh are already been fulfilled by them, such as Ideology or Goals, Participant or Actor, Structure, and Tactic Organizing; There are efforts that has been done by Sumatran Youth Food Movement to achieving food sovereignty in Medan, that efforts are applied in discussion activities, socialization activities, and peace actions. From these activities, the outcome that have been given by Sumatran Youth Food Movement from internal aspect is the transformation of mindset and food pattern consumption of its member, which previously still oriented in import food before joined, changed into local food-oriented, from the external aspect, the economic prosperity of coffee farmers is being helped with “Minum Kopi Medan”, a coffee shop which is part of Sumatran Youth Food Movement’s business unit, collaborating with Medan’s Indonesia Farmer Cooperative (Koperasi Petani Indonesia Kota Medan).
