dc.description.abstractBackground S100B is specifically present in large numbers in the brain and is expressed by astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and Schwann cells. This protein is thought to act as an intracellular and extracellular regulatory signal, which can produce neurotrophic and neurotoxic effects depending on its concentration in neuronal cells. Aim This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the S100B biomarker and infarct volume with the degree of severity and 14-day outcome of acute ischemic stroke patients at Adam Malik Haji Center General Hospital Medan. Method This research is descriptive in nature with a correlative analytic research design with primary data sources where the primary data sources were obtained from the Stroke Corner room and A4Neurology integrated inpatient room (Rindu) H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan with a total sample of 30 acute ischemic stroke patients. Results There was no significant relationship between the S100B biomarker and infarct volume in ischemic stroke patients with a value of p=0.474 (p<0.05) with a value of r=0.136. There was a significant relationship between infarction volume and the severity of acute ischemic stroke patients with a value of p = 0.022 (p <0.05) with a value of r = 0.415. There was a significant relationship between infarction volume and 14-day outcome of acute ischemic stroke patients with a value of p=0.031 (p<0.05) with a value of r=0.394. There was a significant relationship between the S100B biomarker and the severity of ischemic stroke patients with a value of p=0.000 (p<0.05) with a value of r=0.624. There was a significant relationship between the S100B biomarker and the 14-day outcome in acute ischemic stroke patients with a value of p=0.001 (p<0.05) with a value of r=0.585. Conclusion There was no significant relationship between the S100B biomarker and infarct volume in ischemic stroke patients. There is a significant relationship between infarction volume and severity of acute ischemic stroke patients, infarct volume and 14-day outcome of acute ischemic stroke patients, the S100B biomarker and the severity of ischemic stroke patients, the S100B biomarker and 14 day outcome in acute ischemic stroke patients.en_US
