    Abstract
This study is based on theories of systemic functional linguistic (SFL) as developed by M.A.K. Halliday with an objective to describe the patterns of clause relations, discover the most dominant logical relations and in what context they occur. The data are collected from Imadoki Nihonretto, part of Nipponia, a Japanese magazine, published by Heibonsha Ltd. Five tittles were selected, namely "Aruki Tabako Ni Bakkin", "Oshare O Sum Nara Kimono Wa Ikaga ", "Kyoto Hatsu Kireizuki No Hatsujuhin", "Terebi Dorama Ga Hi O Tsukeru Hanryuu Buumu", "Kuma Ga Sato Ni Orite Kita" are selected to the samples. Of the ten variables of logical relations observed, 151 expansion units and 18 projection units are discovered. Hypotaxis elaboration and hypotaxis locution are found out to be the most dominant types. The hypotaxis elaboration occurs as the most dominant type because the description of the five discourses are described repeatedly with different words and sentences yet, they have the same meanings. The hypotaxis locution occurs as the most dominant type because the authors of the discourses have interpreted the meanings of the expressions from the sources (language users) based on their ideas or consideration. Taxis configurations are found out in the dissimilar complex clauses, namely independent clauses precede the dependent clauses. Meanwhile, the pattern of projection relation has the configuration, namely the position of the projectees precede the projector.
