Kajian Struktur dan Makna Pertunjukan Barongsai pada Masyarakat Tionghoa di Medan : Studi Kasus Kelompok Indonesia Wong Loo Choh See Chee Chong Association

Abstract

One of the ethnic which becomes an ethnic in Indonesia is Tionghoa who called Chinese. In social life of Chinese there is a show which called Barongsai Barongsai is lion's dance wears lion mask and act by human. Chinese people observe Barongsai is the show which can give them luck, give and rich. Barongsai is the show which is acting to through the bad spirits away out who can stop their luck, give and rich in Chinese peopie’s life.

The Barongsai shown at the fifth teen days after Imlek New Year (Chinese New Year). The show of Barongsai was held and to be done for thousand years Although many of the show were shown in other places, but the purpose is just the same. The show of Barongsai is a symbol of Tionghoa peoples life (China).

A group of Barongsai Indonesian Wong Loo Choh See Choong Chee Association (IWLCSCCA) show is one of the group which still exist in Medan. This group is a team of some students who are living aroung Sukaramai Medan village. This show was held for Imlek New Year and the other celebrations and was held if there is inviting them. In this shows there are structures and meaning of Barongsai in social Tionghoa people’s life. The Barongsai’s show develops by the era and gets influence to other cultures in that showing,

The structure of Barongsai show starts from beginning, middle (core), and closing (ending). In this structure there is description of the show which is showing in Barongsai tradition. The meaning which is describing in this writing is every pattern of moving which is using has meaning that is connecting with the system in the show.
