Relasi Semantik dan Makna Semiotik Ornamen Bagas Godang Mandailing

Abstract

This study was based on qualitative descriptive approach. Thus, the method used in this study was qualitative method, because the qualitative method as a procedure that produces descriptive data that was a written record. The theory used in this study based on linguistic approach that was semantic and semiotic. The semantic theory used in this study to showed the relation meaning of Bagas Godang ornaments, meanwhile the semiotic theory used to showed the contained meaning of Bagas Godang ornaments. In this study about Meaning of Bagas Godang Ornaments Mandailing found that: 1) the relationship between the meaning of Bagas Godang ornaments were hiponimy, 2) the hiponimy of Bagas Godang ornaments found that there were four hipernims that were plants (flora), animals (fauna), tools (utensil) and natural (cosmic). The hipernims of Bagas Godang ornaments were used as a basic to showed a form of Bagas Godang ornaments, 3) there were found 32 ornaments; 17 ornament had a meaning component icons, index and symbols; 12 ornaments had a meaning component icons and symbols; 2 ornaments had meaning components of the index; and 1 ornament which only had a component symbol, and 4) the ideology of Angkola Mandailaing society that stored in Bagas Godang ornaments were a) holong do hot domu, b) kinship systems of Dalihan tolu and c) uhum dohot ugari
