    Abstract
Research has been done on Phase Change Material (PCM) with Parrafin Wax (PW) and Magnetite (Fe3O4) composited using 80℃ for 10 minutes with sonication variations in mass composition of PW50%Fe3O450% and PW60%Fe3O440% as Thermal Energy Storage (TES). This research is intended to determine the effect of Fe3O4 variation as well as the thermal and physical characteristics of PCM. In this research, the PCM sample's best result is PW50%Fe3O450%, with DSC results having a heat energy absorption area value of 0.09 J and a latent heat enthalpy value of 17.13 J/g and a peak melting temperature of 56.81℃. Thermal distribution testing obtained the highest critical temperature (Tc) 61.31℃ and critical time (tc) 25496 s. Thermal conductivity value test was found to be 0.54 W/mK. The bomb calorimeter test obtained a latent heat value of PCM of 7210 J/g. Furthermore, the results of XRD characterization of PW and Fe3O4 prove that PW is semi crystal at diffraction peaks 2θ = 21.46°, 23.84°. On the other hand, Fe3O4 is cubic crystal with diffraction peaks 2θ = 30.16°, 35.49°, 43.03°, 53.35°, 56.96°, 62.46°, 73.93°. PCM VSM results show soft magnetic properties, the PW50% Fe3O450% sample has a coercivity value of 173.27 Oe and the coercivity value of the PW60%Fe3O440% sample is 168.66 Oe. The FT-IR spectra show no change in spectral wave numbers between PW and Fe3O4 with OH, CH, FeO functional groups. This indicates that PW and Fe3O4 in the PCM composite only interact physically. SEM morphology results show that Fe3O4 particles are homogeneously distributed in the PW structure. While EDX analysis contained elements of C, O, Fe. The density of PCM is 2.43 g/cm3 , porosity of PCM is 7.37% and concrete compressive strength is 0.4 MPa. Therefore, with the characterization and test results, PCM made from PW and Fe3O4 can be used as TES.
