The research of Pb and Zn heavy metal content of White Snapper meat (Lates
calcarifer) was conducted in Belawan River, Deli Serdang Regency on January 2023.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the levels of heavy metals Pb and Zn in the
water and the meat of White Snapper (Lates calcarifer) at several locations of the
Belawan river and to analyse the relationship of heavy metal levels of Pb and Zn in
White Snapper (Lates calcarifer) to the physical and chemical factors of waters. This
research was conducted using the Purposive Sampling method as many as 3 stations
based on differences of areas around the Belawan River Waters, such as areas close
to the factories, areas close to the estuaries, areas near the residential areas. The
results of research showed that the heavy metal content of Pb and Zn in Belawan river
water was classified as close to the quality standards suitable for the life of organisms
based on PP RI No. 22 of 2021 with the maximum limit of heavy metal contamination
in river water. The results of heavy metal analysis of Pb and Zn in White Snapper meat
were safety for the consumption because below from the quality standard based on the
Director General of POM No. 03725 / SK / VII / 1989. Analysis of the relationship
between Pb and Zn heavy metals on physical and chemical factors of waters is still
relatively tolerable based on PP RI No. 22 of 2021 concerning the maximum limit of
heavy metal contamination in water.
