The high or low attack of ectoparasites in cattle is one of the supporting
factors of the successfull of the raising cattle. The research of the identification of
cattle ectoparasites (Bos sp.) at Afdeling II palm oil plantation, Gunung Kataran
Village, Tebing Tinggi Sub-district, Serdang Bedagai District, North Sumatra was
conducted from January to March 2023 with the aim was to know the type, the
prevalence and the intensity ectoparasites of three cattle lines (madrasin, limosin
and simmental). The reseach conducted by using 10 cattle each. Sampling of
ectoparasites was carried out using two methods, which were the sweeping net
method and the method of touching the whole body of the cattle. Sample
identification was carried out at the Plant Systematics Laboratory, Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Science, University of North Sumatra. The types of
ectoparasites found were Boophilus microplus, Musca domestica, Stomoxys
calcitrans, Culex sp. and Haemadipsa sp. The prevalence of ectoparasites that attack
madrasin, limousine and simmental cattle was at the range of 80% -100%, with the
categories usually to always. The intensity of ectoparasitic attacks of the three types
of cattle was ranged from 4,22 to 97,4, with light-heavy categories. The most
dominant types of ectoparasites that attacked cattle in this study were Musca
domestica.
