A health service organizer, hospital is required to provide qualified, effective
and efficient services which are oriented to the need of patients including nursing
service which belongs to the integral parts of health service. To provide the patients
with optimal services, hospital needs to have a good work climate to support the
achievement of adequate performance of the nurses.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of work climate including
work structure, work standard, responsibility, approval, support, commitment and
coworker's relationship on the performance of nurses working in the in-patient
installation of Adam Malik General Hospital Medan in 2007. This study employs the
correlation method with Cross Sectional Study approach. The population for this
study is all of 266 nurses working in the in-patient installation of Rindu A dan B and
158 of them were selected to be the samples through the simple random sampling
technique.
The result of this study shows that work climate significantly influences
nurses' performance with P = 0.0001 (P < 0.05). It is suggested that the hospital
implement the policy by conducting training on hospital management and non-
technical skill such as soft skill in the framework of improving work climate to
cultivate a better performance of nurses
