The perfora1ance of puskesmas officer is the result of puskesmas officer
activity according to their job description. The performance of puskesmas officer is
still become a problem to develop the health program in Serdang Bedagai District.
Some factors influencing the performance of puskesmas officer such as competence,
consist of knowledge, skill and reward.
The purpose of this study with explanatory research type is to explain the
influence of competence and reward to the performance of puskesmas officer in
Serdang Bedagai District. The population of this study were all the puskesmas officer

mount 457 and 85 of them selected to be sample from 17 puskesmas through
proportional sampling technique. The data were analyzed through multiple linear
regression test at the level of confidence of 95%.
The result of this study shows that knowledge (p=0,000) have significant
influence to the performance of puskesmas officer, but skill (p=0,070) are not have
significant influence -to the performance of puskesmas officer. Based on reward, -the
indirect reward (p=0,000) have significan influence to the performance of puskesmas
officer, while direct reward (p=0,092) are not have significant influence to the
performance of puskesmas officer. Knowledge is the most dominant variable which
has significant influence to the performance of puskesmas officer.
It is suggested to health district office to improve the knowledge of the
puskesmas officer to increase the training budget in order to develop the officer of
puskesmas and monitoring their activity periodically
