Air is the most important substance after water in giving life on this earth.
Smoke pollutant resulted from burning is very dangerous for our health and will
cause various kinds of illness, let alone if the condition of the stove does not meet
health requirement.
The objective of the research was to find out the correlation of fuel for
cooking (fire wood and kerosene), condition of stove, and CO content in the kitchen
with the disturbance of respiration system at KelurahanTamiang,
KotanopanSubdistrict, Mandailing Natal District.
The research was an analytic with cross sectional design. The object of the
research was the disturbance of respiration system caused by fuel for cooking,
condition of stove, CO content in the kitchen.
The population was 223 housewives used wood and kerosene as fuel, and 70
of them were used as the samples. The data were analyzed by using fisher exact,
mann-whitney, and logistic regression analysis.
The result of the research showed that the variables which had the
correlation with the disturbance of respiration system were fuel for cooking
(p=0. 000), the distance from ceiling to kitchen floor (p=0. 003), frequency of cooking
(p=0. 007), and CO content (p=0. 000) The variables which did not have any
correlation with respiration system were types of kitchen walls (p=0.594), moisture
(p=0. 07), temperature (p=0. 482), and the length of cooking (p=0.19)
