Low protein dieting of CGK (Chronic Kidney Failure) will reduce the accumulation of nitrogen waste which can cause short of breath, congestive heart failure, and lung edema. It is very difficult for CGK patients to comply with protein dieting because of nurses' lack of communication in giving health information about protein dieting so that GGK mortality is still high. There were 36 patients who were under hemodialysis dieting therapy in RSUD Cut Mutia, Aceh Utara, within at least one month in February, 2016, and 15 of them (41. 7%) did not comply with protein dieting. The objective of the research was to find out the influence of nurses' characteristics and therapeutic communication on patients' compliance with hemodialysis dieting therapy in RSUD Cut Mutia, Aceh Utara. The research used a survey method with cross sectional design. The population was 36 patients who were under protein dieting therapy within sat least one month in February, 2016, and all of them were used as the samples. The data were gathered by using questionnaires and checklists and analyzed by using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression analysis at the Significance level of 5%. The result of the research showed that the variable of hemodialysis patients' characteristic (education) influenced the compliance with protein dieting therapy while the variables of age and sex did not have any influence. The variable of therapeutic communication (materials and nurses' attitude) influenced the compliance with protein dieting therapy. The conclusion of the research was that there was the influence of nurses ' education, materials, and attitude on the compliance with protein dieting therapy. It is recommended that the hospital management plan and make policy on food menu, especially for hemodialysis patients. Ward heads should carry out supervision and morning briefing for health care providers and provide food supplement for patients who have leftovers in consuming their meals. Besides that, health care providers should continuously provide health education for patients and their familiesen_US
