One of the health problems in Indonesia that needs to be concerned is stunting suffered by children under five years of age with the prevalence of 24.4%. Food security and parenting patterns have become indirect causes of stunting on children in Indonesia. Data are collected using questionnaires which consist of data of family characteristics, food security, parenting patterns and children body height obtained through measurement using microtoise. The result indicate that 42.4% of children under five suffer from stunting. Bivariate analysis result using chi square test indicates that there is a correlation between food security (p < 0.001), attention to women (p < 0.011), breastfeeding and food feeding (p < 0.001), psychosocial care (p < 0.019), food processing (p < 0.001), personal hygiene practices (p<0.001), healthy home practices (p<0.001) with the incidence of stunting on children under five in impoverished family in Langkat Regency.
