dc.description.abstract | Literary works are a reflection of life experiences expressed through the written word by authors. A piece of literature is inevitably intertwined with various social issues, one of which is poverty. The issue of poverty in novels can be examined through the lens of sociological literary studies. The objective of this research is to describe the situational poverty depicted in the novel "Arafat Rahasia Besar Bocah Gaza" by Arum Faiza. The theoretical framework for this study applies two theories: the forms of poverty according to Sunarso and Mardimin and poverty indicators according to Piven, Clowerd, and Swanson. The research methodology employed is descriptive-qualitative, with the primary data source being the novel "Arafat Rahasia Besar Bocah Gaza" by Arum Faiza. The findings of this study reveal that the prevalent form of poverty depicted in the novel is situational poverty. The poverty indicators experienced by the characters in the novel include (1) lack of material resources related to daily necessities such as food, clothing, and housing, (2) inadequate income, and (3) difficulties in meeting social needs, particularly in accessing social services such as education and healthcare. | en_US |
