    Abstract
    This study aims to describe the intrinsic elements and personality dynamics of the main character in the Malay Folklore of Nakhoda Saman La'in. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The theory used in this research is structural theory and literary psychology theory which focuses on personality dynamics. The source of the data in this study was Syamsul Hilal's Malay Folklore Book, Nakhoda Saman La'in. The data collection technique used in this research is the technique of reading, observing and taking notes. The analysis technique in this study is an analysis of the text in the Malay folklore of Nakhoda Saman La'in. The results of this study are that in the intrinsic elements there is a theme of trying to create peace in every problem. Characters and characterizations, the protagonist is 9 characters and 1 antagonist character. The plot contained in this folklore is the forward plot. Place background is 9 data, time background is 12 data and socio-cultural background is 2 data. The point of view used in this folktale is the third person point of view. The message contained in this folklore is to unite in fighting or quelling evil for good, which is the recommended action. However, in doing so do not be based on a sense of revenge. In addition, we as humans should always remember that good or bad things come from God. In the personality dynamics of the main character in this Malay folklore, there are 7 types of emotion classification, divided into 12 data of happiness, 1 data of guilt, 2 data of anger, 1 data of hatred, 1 data of fear, 3 data of sadness, 1 and love. Furthermore, there are 7 types of defense and conflict mechanisms divided into 9 rationalization data, 2 sublimation data, 1 projection data, 3 formation reaction data, 3 diversion data, 2 regression data, and 1 fantasy data. Thus, the instinct possessed by the main character in this Malay folklore is the instinct of life.
