Analisis Pengaruh Faktor Demografik dan Sindrom Depresif terhadap Fungsi Kognitif pada Lanjut Usia di Puskesmas Padang Bulan Kota Medan

Abstract

Background: Cognitive function is a real change that occurs in a person followed by increasing age. Cognitive impairment is an important health problem because of its adverse effects on the independent life of parents and the heavy economic burden. Various factors contribute to this rate of change, including lifestyle, genetic variation, and physical and mental health factors. It is necessary to know how the influence of demographic factors and depressive syndrome on cognitive function in the elderly. Objective: To determine the effect of demographic factors and depressive syndrome on cognitive function in the elderly at Padang Bulan Health Center, Medan City. Methods: This study is a predictive multivariate analytical study with a cross-sectional approach using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), and Activity of Daily Living (ADL) assessment instruments. Sampling used non-probability sampling consecutive sampling type on 151 elderly subjects. This study was conducted at the Padang Bulan Health Center, Medan City. Results: The final result of multivariate logistic regression analysis found that age, gender, education level, ADL, and depressive syndrome were associated with cognitive function with p < 0,05 and AUC = 89,3%. Conclusion : Education as early as possible in the elderly who have not experienced a decline in cognitive function is very necessary, especially for the elderly who have related risk factors so as to prevent cognitive disorders in the future.
