Tindakan Sosial Generasi Z dalam Penggunaan Tinder sebagai Media Kencan Online (Studi pada Pengguna Tinder Kota Medan)

Abstract

Today's online dating phenomenon has become common, where someone can easily find a date online. Tinder is the most popular online dating application for Generation of Z. With the presence of Tinder, it is a new alternative in technological developments. Communication which then shifts conventional love patterns to be connected online through internet-based applications. This study aims to identify how Gen Z social acts in using Tinder as an online dating medium. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted with 10 informants who are users of the Tinder application. Based on the theory of instrumental rationality social action, Gen Z consciously forms patterns of instrumental rational action through the use of the Tinder application. In fact, Gen Z realizes that in order to attract the attention of other users on Tinder, they take advantage of the features available on Tinder, such as uploading photos that are as attractive and similar as possible, posting bios with interesting words, and diverting chats to other social media in order to gain more personal relationship. So that the actions they take through rational efforts to achieve their goal, which is to get a match with other users on Tinder. This is in line with the theory of instrumental rational action, where actions are carried out by actors through rational thinking with an effort to achieve a goal they expect.
