    Abstract
This thesis analyzes the demonstration as a form of political participation of pine resin tappers of Ronggur Nihuta village in defending pine forest management rights in Samosir district. This demonstration occurred because the Samosir regent issued a letter to the Governor of North Sumatra and the Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Forestry Service regarding a request to stop tapping pine resin in Samosir Regency with number 360/1777/BPBD/VIII/2022. The action of Samosir regent Vandiko Gultom in issuing the letter resulted in pine tappers in Samosir regency, especially pine tappers in Ronggur Nihuta village, feeling restless and unable to tap pine resin for 2-3 months. This is the background for the emergence of demonstrations by pine resin tappers to demand that the Samosir regent revoke the request letter. The purpose of this research is to explain how farmers' participation in the demonstration and what are the supporting and inhibiting factors of the demonstration. The method used is qualitative research method with descriptive-qualitative analysis. The results of the study explain that the political participation of pine resin tappers in Ronggur Nihuta village can be seen from their involvement in demonstrations starting from the process of preparing for the action, then implementing action activities to the end of the demonstration. In carrying out the demonstration, the head of the forest farmer group had conducted socialization by involving all pine resin tappers. More than 500 farmers tapping pine resin in Ronggur Nihuta village were involved in the demonstration by visiting the Samosir regent's office and the Samosir district parliament office. The obstacle faced by the farmers during the demonstration was the absence of the Samosir regent when they took action, so they did not get a definite response from the Samosir district government. However, the demonstration was responded well by members of the Samosir district parliament, who said that farmers could re-manage the pine forest and the important thing is that it must be in accordance with the SOP. In the end, the tapping of pine resin could be resumed, meaning that it was no longer stopped. Support from the Samosir District Social Forestry Community Association made the demonstration run peacefully and smoothly
