    Abstract
Research has been carried out on the analysis of a new solid insulator made from epoxy resin mixed with hazelnut shell ash to obtain a new solid insulator by utilizing candlenut shell waste. Candlenut shell is one of the wastes that receives less attention in its utilization. The North Sumatra Plantation Service recorded candlenut production in North Sumatra in 2019 reaching 13,529.40 tons. up to 70% of hazelnut production which is usually wasted. Candlenut shells are usually used as an ingredient for making charcoal, but they are still not maximized because the process of burning candlenut shells is so difficult. . On this basis, the researchers tried to carry out an analytical test of the solid insulator made from a mixture of epoxy resin and candlenut shell ash. The insulator test was seen from the electrical properties test which included resistivity and dielectric strength tests of the polymer insulator. The number of test samples was carried out by testing 9 test samples with varying filler percentage levels, starting from 95% epoxy resin and 5% candlenut shell ash filler to the last sample with 50% epoxy resin content and 50% candlenut shell ash.Variation in the percentage content of the filler is by adding 5% to the next sample from the total amount of filler made. The number of variations in the percentage content made aims to determine the effect of the mixture on the electrical properties of the insulator. From the test results, the best resistivity value was found in sample 2 with 90% epoxy resin content and 10% hazelnut shell ash, while for dielectric strength the highest value was obtained in sample 3 with 85% epoxy resin content and 15% candlenut shell ash.
