Politik Luar Negeri Neighbourhood First India terhadap Krisis Ekonomi Sri Lanka Tahun 2021- 2022

Abstract

This thesis discusses foreign policy neighbourhood first India against the Sri Lankan economic crisis in 2021-2022. India's foreign policy seeks to increase cooperation and maintain strong relations with countries in the South Asian region. In the case of Sri Lanka, India with this policy has committed to help and support Sri Lanka to recover from the economic crisis it experienced. This study aims to explain India's national interests behind the support and assistance provided to Sri Lanka, and to describe the impact of India's policy implementation on Sri Lanka's economic crisis relief. The research method used is a qualitative research method using literature study techniques. The results of this research is that India's national interest behind the support and economic assistance provided to Sri Lanka can be seen from the security element. First, in terms of geopolitical and geostrategic security which shows that India as the main actor in international politics wants to maintain its dominance and strategic position in the South Asian region. Second, the geographical location of Sri Lanka is very important for India's maritime security, because Sri Lanka is a major sea lane in the Indian Ocean. Third, from an economic security perspective, India wants rapid growth for itself by trying to encourage Sri Lanka's economic development. India's help and support has also had a positive impact on Sri Lanka. By shipping US$500 million worth of fuel, India has helped one of the worst situations Sri Lankans face in their daily lives. Second, India has helped Sri Lanka's economic development by increasing economic cooperation and increasing investment. Lastly, although not fully involved in the political stability of Sri Lanka, at least India has helped quell large-scale demonstrations of dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the Sri Lankan government.
