    Abstract
    The decline in the performance of BANK XYZ KC Medan Employees, from the percentage of employee performance appraisal results for 2018-2021 which had unsatisfactory fluctuations. Employees still get ratings in the sufficient and poor categories due to career development, extrinsic motivation and training. This study aims to determine and analyze directly and indirectly the effect of extrinsic motivation and training on employee performance through career development as an intervening variable at PT. BANK XYZ (Persero) Tbk Medan Main Branch Office. This type of research is associative research. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data obtained from interview questionnaires and documentation studies. The population in this study were all permanent employees at PT. BANK XYZ Medan Main Branch Office, as many as 159 employees. Sampling in this study with probability sampling technique. The criterion used was proportionate stratified random sampling. The number of samples is 114 respondents. The data analysis method used is path analysis. The research results show that extrinsic motivation and training directly affect career development. Extrinsic motivation and training directly affect employee performance. Furthermore, career development directly affects employee performance. Extrinsic motivation indirectly has a significant effect on employee performance through career development. Training indirectly has a significant effect on employee performance through career development.
