The continuity of electric power distribution needs to be considered in order to achieve
the level of system reliability. The implementation of Fault Detection Isolation and Restoration
(FDIR) is a smart way to improve system reliability and efficiency of distribution system
operations. FDIR is a distribution network automation system that automatically performs the
function of opening and closing the Load Break Switch (LBS) when a disturbance occurs by
quickly detecting interference so that it can isolate and speed up fault recovery with load
maneuvers. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of FDIR application and analyze
how SAIDI compares and duration of outages before and after FDIR application
The results of the analysis show that there is a comparison of outage time and SAIDI
before and after FDIR implementation. On the TT.05 feeder before FDIR, the average outage
time was 22.15 minutes, after FDIR it was 10.70 minutes. Decreased average outage time by
51.745%. The average SAIDI before FDIR was 7.38333 minutes/customer, after FDIR was
3.56275 minutes/customer. The average decrease in SAIDI was 51.676%. In the DA.06 feeder
before FDIR, the average outage time was 24.31 minutes, after FDIR it was 11.25 minutes.
Decreased average outage time by 62.829%. While the average SAIDI before FDIR was
8.10417 minutes/customer, after FDIR it was 3.01243 minutes/customer. The average decrease
in SAIDI was 53.723%. The magnitude of the percentage decrease shows the results of
implementing the FDIR system. Effective FDIR implementation can significantly reduce
outage duration and SAIDI to improve system reliability.
