Thesis is one of the requirements for a student to obtain a bachelor's degree. But in completing the thesis, students often encounter difficulties that tend to make them do academic procrastination. Academic procrastination is a procrastination behavior that occurs in the environment and is related to academic assignments. To reduce the tendency of academic procrastination, students need a positive character in them. One of them is grit. Grit is persistence and passion to achieve long-term goals. This study aims to determine the relationship between grit and academic procrastination in students of Study Program X, Faculty of Y, University of North Sumatera who are preparing their thesis. The sample of this study was 165 students, which are collected using a purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used to measure the grit variable is the Grit Scale measuring tool created by Irene P. Edwina and Ni Luh Ayu Vivekananda (2018) and for the academic procrastination variable is using a measuring tool developed by researchers based on the theory of Ferrari, Johnson & McCown (1995). Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment test. Based on data analysis, the coefficient (rxy) = -0.378 is obtained with a significance of p <0.05. This means that there is a negative relationship between grit and procrastination.
