Orphanages are part of a child protection institution responsible for protecting
children's rights to act as a substitute for parents. The problem is that there are many illegal
and uninhabitable orphanages. Apart from that, most orphanages in the city of Medan lack
orphanage facilities such as a health room, dining room, shared area, and children's
interaction space, and the design given is sober, not considering the psychological and
behavioral aspects of the child. Therefore, planning an orphanage really needs to feel like a
"home" for children, which functions as a place to live where they can feel comfortable, valued,
safe, and fully express themselves, not just because the house is a place to protect them from
the heat and rain. , but also for a sense of ownership of the building. In applying the concept
of the meaning of a house in an orphanage building, a behavioral architectural approach is
needed so that the goals and functions link the behavior of building users with the
surrounding environment, which influence each other and are able to create the desired
behavior. This building is able to overcome the social problems of orphanage children who
tend to withdraw from the environment.
