Perancangan Pusat Literasi di Sub-Wilayah Medan Utara (Arsitektur Tropis)
Abstract
Education in Indonesia basically has quality standards that can be said to be
far behind other countries. Meanwhile, the quality of a country's education is
inseparable from the literacy ability of its people. Literacy is one of the most
essential things because it is closely related to a person's ability to absorb
information, analyze, comment, and think critically about the information he gets.
The condition regarding literacy in Indonesia is also very worrying. This is
indicated by various data that explain the low literacy rate for education in
Indonesia, the lack of collaboration between institutions, and the absence of
integrated systems and facilities.
By looking at the development of the population and also education in the
city of Medan, this is not supported by the products that have occurred in the
educational support buildings. One of them is the Literacy Center which contains
sources of knowledge and learning for the community regardless of ethnicity,
religion, race, or social level.
Based on the elaboration above, the design of this literacy center will be
adapted to the needs in the field of education and is expected to be able to create
and redevelop the literacy culture of the people of Medan Labuhan District with the
design results being developed through a tropical architectural theme approach that
will be more integrated and feel comfortable with the user while in the literacy center
building.
