Perancangan Perpustakaan Khusus Anak di Kota Medan dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Modern
Abstract
Indonesian society is in a literacy crisis stage, in general the national average reading
literacy activity index of Indonesian society is in the low category especially for young
children, namely toddlers to adolescents. This is due to the low quality of library physical
facilities in the city of Medan, especially libraries that comply with child service standards.
In line with the work program of the Indonesian Child Protection Agency in the context
of fulfilling children's rights to proper information, it is planned to design a Special Children's
Library in Medan City under the agency's supervision. A special library for children with a
modern architectural approach that suits the characteristics of children in today's digital era,
will be their place to socialize, relax and as a space for collaboration.
The application of the concept of modern architecture is considered in accordance with
a special library with the concept of simplicity in form, and building elements are integrated
into the composition of the building with an up to date design, so that a library with a modern
architectural approach will become a place for literacy that is not just reading books, but more
dynamic in the form of digital access, which better represents the lifestyle and needs of today's
children and youth.
