Perancangan Fasilitas Kesehatan Mental dengan Pendekatan Healing Environment

Abstract

The number of people with mental disorders increases significantly every year due to various life burdens in Indonesia. This issue becomes matter because mental health is a fundamental aspect of human life which has an impact on the productivity of their daily activities. The aim of this research is to design adequate mental health facilities through an environment that can assist in the healing process. The design of Mental Health Facilities can be a place for people with mental disorders through therapy and rehabilitation that takes into account several architectural factors and elements that support the psychological recovery process by applying aspects of the Healing Environment. This research utilizes a descriptive method with a qualitative approach through the exploration of ideas by collecting data, including literature studies, typological case studies, or similar themes. Then, the data are going to be analyzed as a design guide for the research. The results of this study conclude that the application of the Healing Environment emphasizes natural, sensory, and psychological aspects. The natural aspect is implemented with the presence of natural elements which are managed in indoor and outdoor spaces by presenting elements such as light, access to view and nature, and noise control. The sensory aspect is implemented by presenting architectural elements such as materials and colors that can be accepted by the human senses which have a positive impact on the body. And psychological aspects that apply elements that can help the psychological development of sufferers of mental disorders in a home-like environment, barrier free environment , room layout, main entrance design, and art.
