    Abstract
The need for space to accommodate SME activities at the University of North Sumatra (USU) is crucial in providing a suitable environment for the development and growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises within the campus. As a university in the North Sumatra region, USU has a responsibility to promote regional economic development through the provision of adequate buildings for SMEs. Currently, the University of North Sumatra has not fully demonstrated an adequate role in providing facilities for SMEs. Although there is an awareness of the importance of developing micro, small, and medium enterprises within the campus, concrete steps to facilitate and support SMEs are still limited. The challenge faced is how to design SMEs buildings at the University of North Sumatra considering the elements of modern architecture. The purpose of this report is to present comprehensive and informative data regarding the design of the SMEs Square collaboration building at the University of North Sumatra with a modern architectural approach. The methods used in this design include following the design guidelines, conducting site surveys, collecting data through observation, documentation, literature review, and studying similar projects. These methods were used to formulate the design concept for the SMEs building. This building has a unique shape concept as it adopts a rectangular form that is developed, and it utilizes materials such as concrete, steel, glass, and metal, which are characteristic of modern architecture. The final result of this design is a SMEs building with a capacity of 10,000 people and a building area of approximately 12,000 m2. It also includes supporting functions such as a convention hall, co-working space, and a cinema, spanning across 4 floors.
