Abstract

Access to health is something that must be owned by everyone as an effort to make life worth living, to support access to good health, qualified health workers are needed in large enough numbers. One of the ways to get qualified medical personnel is to establish schools as educational facilities that can produce great teaching staff. However, architecturally, STIKES buildings in the city of Medan have not responded well in terms of social and health, such as responding to sunlight, airflow, and public facilities available in the building and its environment. One way to get qualified medical personnel is to establish schools as educational facilities that can produce great educators. The design of a high school of health sciences in Medan with a green architectural approach and metaphor combines both symbolic elements and energy efficiency and creates a more synergistic and comfortable campus environment for students, lecturers and staff involved in the campus. The result of the design is a 3-storey building complex that has the metaphorical form of stacked books which results in a facade that is open on the primary side of the road and open space to optimize light entering the sun and closed on the negative side of the building which has minimal sunlight. The goal is to create a health school that can provide a good education and become a model for an environmentally friendly school for other schools in the city of Medan.
