    Abstract
UMKM products in Medan are experiencing development. Based on information from the Medan City Cooperative & UMKM Office, UMKM businesses can maintain the economic stability of the city of Medan in 2022. At the same time, UMKM business actors actually damage the image and arrangement of the city by carrying out buying and selling activities on city pedestrians, which results in the functioning of city facilities not functioning properly, such as the occurrence of barriers to pedestrian access to congestion. This shows the lack of response to the accommodation of places for UMKM business actors. Therefore, how to present a space that can accommodate UMKM activities and other supporting functions that are comfortable and responsive for users. This paper describes how to design the UMKM Square collaborative building using a biophilic approach. The method used for this design is a procedural programming method; define problems, collect data, analyze data, adjust designs, and present design results. After carrying out an analysis process based on the direction of the sun, the orientation of the building and considering open space, this building has three separate masses according to its function with an organic shape, thus forming a space in the center of the site, which functions as an open space for communal activities. This open space also plays a role in providing connectivity between building masses. The end result of this design process is that there are 3 building masses with an area of 8,924 m2 with a total of 6 floors and oriented to Jl. Dr. Mansyur. The design uses a biophilic design approach that is analogous to organic forms, presents natural elements, and the role of open space as access to production and views of green open spaces on the design site.
