Abstract

This study aims to find out how the journey of Mandailing Newspaper in Medan and why this newspaper is no longer running until now. This research is also to find out how the role of Mandailing newspaper in the era of struggle in Medan in voicing independence. In the research process, the method used is the historical method consisting of heuristics (collecting sources), verification (source criticism), interpretation and historiography. Data Analysis Techniques consist of the Preparation stage, namely by preparing everything that supports research and looking for literature related to the object of research. The Data Grouping Stage is after the Data Collection Stage is complete, the next stage is by grouping data consisting of News and Advertisements. Data Analysis Techniques are the analysis of data made in an exposure. Data Interpretation Techniques are by connecting data that has been grouped and then the data is interpreted and poured into discussion. The sources used are archives, contemporary newspapers, contemporary books and literature relevant to research. These collected sources are critiqued and then interpreted and reconstructed in historical writing. The method used is the Qualitative Descriptive Method. This research is a Library Research Study by collecting secondary data and primary data on the problem, and literature or writing used that has something to do with the problem to be studied, by taking data directly from the Mandailing Newspaper. The results of research on the Profile of Mandailing Newspaper was one of the newspapers that participated in voicing the spirit of independence and unity at that time. Sjarikat Mandailing, led by toean Abdoellah Loebis, issued a newspaper called Mandailing which was used to insult the Batak. The content of the Mandailing newspaper consists of 8 themes and is general. The content of the news is dominated by Foreign News. The ad consists of 2 themes. The content of the ad is dominated by the theme of selling goods.
