Planning relay coordination in the network is very important for reliable and efficient operation. Relay coordination consists of coordinating the operation of the main protection relay and the backup protection relay. If any other relay trips before the main relay, it will cause unnecessary healthy line outages. The maloperation was identified as sympathetic tripping. Sympathetic Trip is a circuit breaker mal-operation phenomenon that detects disturbances in the feeder outside its protection zone. This final project discusses the coordination of distance relays and overcurrent relays to mitigate sympathetic trips. The distance relay is placed on the network feeder connected to DG while the overcurrent relay is placed on the feeder without DG. The relay coordination simulation was carried out on the IEEE 13 Bus distribution network connected to DG. In this thesis, a short circuit fault simulation will be carried out at fault location 1 and fault location 2. Through the simulation, it can be seen that by using a 0.2-second CTI in coordinating the distance relay and overcurrent relay in the system, sympathetic tripping can be mitigated for all scenarios. Through the simulation, it can be seen that relay DR1 does not operate for 100% short circuit fault of line length 603 in scenarios 2-1 and scenario 4-1 because the location of this fault is outside its protection zone. The OCR 2 relay is the main protection relay for Scenarios 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1 with an operating time of 5.8 ms. Also, the OCR 5 relay is the main protection relay for Scenarios 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, and 4-2 with an operating time of 77.2 ms. In this case, the circuit breaker closest to the fault location trips before the other circuit breakers trip so that a Sympathetic trip does not occur.en_US
