Abstract

Art and culture are formed from human civilization. Along with the development of civilization, art leaves its traces to produce identity, identity of time, identity of society. As an eastern nation that upholds values in society, the arts often unite, strengthen, protect, and provide a sense of belonging. The creation of this art is not a process of turning the palm of the hand, it takes commitment, perseverance, high imagination, and is able to be accepted by the community. However, apart from being challenged through the process, artistic life is also threatened by modernization. It's rare to find pure art these days. All have acculturated and adapted. So without contemplating it can be realized that humans must maintain and preserve the arts and culture that exist in their environment. A pattern of thought and support is needed so that art can continue to be maintained and even develop. Art galleries are a place for expression in the arts, which is one way that can be adopted to increase and restore people's passion for art. Moreover, the city of Medan especially with the high diversity of society but inversely proportional to its artistic life, the art gallery seems to be able to introduce, disseminate information, and educate the public with art which of course contains the identity of the city of Medan itself. Furthermore, art galleries can become an informative new tourist attraction for children and tourists. The concept of designing an art gallery in Medan City applies a contemporary architectural style with a little touch of locality which of course aims to reach all groups and ages so that the purpose of designing an art gallery can be fully achieved.
