Medan City is a city with rapid regional growth and development. The need for land for settlements is
also increasing which results in very limited land availability. This research is quantitative descriptive.
This study discusses the availability of green open space, land use recommendations based on the level
of water conservation and the relationship between the area of green open space and the level of water
conservation. The results of the study show that Medan City has a green open space of 12,029.766 Ha
(41.35%). Based on the total area, the condition of green open space is in accordance with the policy
with a minimum proportion of green open space of 30% of the total area. However, Medan City's public
green open space has not met the proportion where public green open space in Medan City is only
3355.455 Ha (11.535%). While the private green open space in Medan City has fulfilled the proportion
where private green open space is 8674.321 Ha (29.82%). Based on the water conservation zone map,
Medan City has three water conservation zones, namely a high water conservation zone of 5218.273 Ha
(18%), a moderate water conservation zone of 7092.340 Ha (24%) and a low water conservation zone
of 16739.1 Ha (57.5%). Based on the relationship between the level of water conservation and green
open space, there is a significant relationship, the wider the green open space, the higher the level of
water conservation.
