    Abstract
MgFe2O4 has been successfully synthesized using the co-precipitation method. The synthesis of this material was prepared by mixing MgCl2.6H2O, iron sand, HCl, and varying concentrations of NaOH, namely 5M (K1), 10M (K2), and 15M (K3) at a temperature of 90°C with a synthesis time of 60 minutes. The samples were washed using distilled water and ethanol until the pH reached 7. The drying process of the precipitate was carried out using an oven at 100°C for 15 hours, followed by sample calcination at 750°C for 2 hours. The calcination temperature was determined based on the DTA test results, which showed a constant mass change at 750°C. SEM-EDX analysis at a magnification of 5000X provided a morphological image of the samples. The particle size of each synthesized sample decreased, with particle sizes for variations K1, K2, and K3 being 24.486 nm, 21.731 nm, and 21.216 nm, respectively. Based on XRD analysis, it was identified that MgFe2O4 formed a single phase of Magnesium Ferrite, with crystal sizes for variations K1, K2, and K3 being 1.56 nm, 1.49 nm, and 0.45 nm, respectively. VSM analysis of MgFe2O4 indicated that the samples exhibited soft magnetic properties, with coercivities for variations K1, K2, and K3 being 118.08 Oe, 113.16 Oe, and 129.5 Oe, respectively. Based on AAS analysis, it was found that MgFe2O4 with variation K1 was the effective sample in absorbing Cd metal in contaminated water, with an absorption efficiency of 99.64%. MgFe2O4 with variation K2 was efficient in absorbing Pb, Zn, and Mn metals, with percentages of 98.34%, 99.76%, and 99.91%, respectively. Furthermore, MgFe2O4 with variation K3 was the most efficient in absorbing Cu metal in liquid waste, with an absorption efficiency of 99.89%. In conclusion, all variations of MgFe2O4 samples have the potential as adsorbents for heavy metals in water.
