    Abstract
    This thesis explains about the background of the establishment PT. Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) that is located in Batu Bara district, explains the development of PT Inalum from 1976 to 2014 and explains the benefits of PT. Inalum for Batu Bara society and its surroundings. The purpose of this thesis is to explain the transformation of PT.Inalum from its inception since 1976 to become a BUMN in 2014 and PT. Inalum benefits for society. The methods used in this thesis are heuristics (data collection), critical verification (data authenticity), interpretation (data interpretation), and historiography (historical writing). In the process of collecting data, this thesis conducted by using library studies and field studies. In carrying out a library study, this thesis uses literature in the form of books that found in the North Sumatera provincial library, the North Sumatera University library, and Batu Bara District library. Field studies were carried out by visiting location and interviewing relevant sources. The finding of this thesis, it was found that PT. Inalum was established on January 6th, 1976 with 90% shares owned by foreigners and 10% owned bt the Indonesian government. PT. Inalum which initially owned the majority of shares by Japan, in 2013 officially 100% of its share were taken by the Indonesian government. In 2014, PT Inalum became one of the BUMNs in Indonesia. PT.Inalum has made many contributions to surrounding society. In additions of absorbing the workforce, PT.Inalum also contributes actively to the social, economic, cultural and education of Batu Bara society and its surroundings.
