    Abstract
This study discusses the description of the process of making Garantung made by Mr. Samuel Harianja using 3 types of wood materials and also to find out the technique of the game and her to produce Garantung sounds and the repertoire played so that later this paper can be useful and help the regeneration of people in North Sumatra, especially the Toba people in the Tapanuli area in learning Garantung musical instruments. The use of 3 types of wood materials in making garantung musical instruments is carried out to overcome the possibility of wood scarcity in the future and also proves that garantung musical instruments can not only be made with 1 type of wood. This study aims to describe the process of making garanting toha made by Mr. Samuel Hurianja using 3 types of wood materials, and the technique of playing garantung musical instruments, as well as the repertoire played by Garantung musical instruments. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive method. This research is supported by the theory of classifying musical instruments based on the main vibrating source of sound proposed by Curt Sachs and Hornbostel, and the theory used to describe organologically advanced musical instruments proposed by Susumu Khasima through a structural and functional approach, the theory used to analyze reportour uses the theory proposed by Bruno Netli. The results obtained show that the classification of Garantung Tohu musical instruments is included in the idiophone classification and in the process of making Garantung musical instruments do not have to use one type of wood as a manufacturing material but can use three or more types of wood, and the sound produced by Garantung with 3 types of wood does not really cause sound differences even though it uses 3 types of wood, however, the sound produced can blend and have similarities with Garantung in general which uses I type of wood.
