| dc.description.abstract | This study aims to describe the form and function of street names in Siantar Marihat, Sianta Utara, and Siantar Timur Districts of Pematang Siantar City, explaining the background of the origins of street names in Pematang Siantar City. This study uses an anthropolinguistic approach. The method used in this study uses listening and speaking. The data analysis technique used in this study uses the referential equivalent method. The method of collecting data in this research is the method of recording and documentation. The results of this study found that the form, function, and background of street names in the three sub-districts of Siantar Marihat, Siantar Utara, and Siantar Timur are included in two forms of phrases. Researchers divide the function of street names based on three uses (1) communicative function (2) identifier function and (3) ideational function. In the background section on the naming of street names, the researcher categorizes the origins of embodiment aspects (naming based on the natural conditions of flora and fauna), community aspects (naming based on warrior figures), and cultural aspects (naming based on origins in the form of legends). | en_US |
